Network Lib: getting it working remotely
Nov 12th, 2009, 11:12am

Hello all:

Trying to get Network library (client/server) functions working from a remote host that allows persistent process.  Just using the SharedCanvas client/server example included with P5.  The server is running Debian and  has Java 1.5 installed.  I can get the server running as an exported app, but clients don't show other clients' lines.  Diagnostics show that the test port is open on my server (12345).  Is there something basic I'm missing here  Has anyone gotten this working  All suggestions appreciated!

I don't think the Server is designed to be multipoint (ie. multi-client), even less to feedback one client's data to all others (?) clients.

Hmm.  Bummer.  What about interfacing with Java client/server code?  Possible in theory, has anyone done it that you know of?

so, does this mean, a server can have only one client?

I wanna have 3 clients, sending data to the server. nothing has to be sent back, only the server works with them.

is that possible?

thanks!

I probably hadn't enough coffee (or it was way too late!) when I wrote the above...  Sad

Looking again at the reference (I hadn't tried this library much), I see for example in Server.write(): "Writes a value to all the connected clients" which is quite explicit.

Sorry to have been misleading.
