Saving console output to a file? (exceptions)
Oct 14th, 2009, 6:12pm

Hello,

I've got a distributable Processing sketch.  Although I've done my best to handle exceptions, inevitably one escapes.  The result for me is an exception printed out on the console.  However, the result for one of my users is simply that the program stops running with no error message.  This makes troubleshooting their problems very difficult.  Is there any way to log the console output to a file?  I've heard rumors of a mysterious and elusive "stderr.txt" but I've never seen one be created.  I'd rather roll my own version of the stderr.txt and write it somewhere consistent.

Has anyone else run into this issue?  Any suggestions?

Thanks,
- Bret

The Processing console is just an echo of the Java console:

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/javaconsole.xml

(if the user's on a Mac, it's even easier -- just open "Console" in the Utilities folder)
