How to capture a CCTV camera with processing
Sep 10th, 2009, 8:58am

Hi,

We bought a USB 2.0 DVR Video grabber and an CCTV infrared camera. The camera works fine with the SuperDVR video surveillance software that came with it.  In Processing, however, we can see that the camera is connected (it is listed as "TD3101_3104 Video Capture-WDM") but when we try to capture it, all we get is a black image.

Can you tell us what is the best way to capture a CCTV infrared camera in Processing?

This may be stupid suggestions, but how was the lighting? did you use an IR light source when testing? Things like fluorescent light in offices contains almost no IR wavelength light at all.

What are the specs. for a CCTV camera? maybe they run at very low frame rates, have you tried setting the frame rate manually to the specs for the camera.

Also I could imagine the CCTV cameras being special in other ways, maybe there is two way communication between the camera and the receiver. I was thinking that maybe the surveillance software sends an "acknowledge" or "clear to send" or something like that.
So that an operator can ask the camera to speed up the frame rate or change other parameters. If there is a manual available try looking for some of these things:)

Just a few ideas of the top of my head, hope it does something:)
