Using MIDI to trigger effects in Ableton Live

I came across this thread on the Ableton forums talking about using a midi foot controller to trigger effects.

(you have to change hxxp to http, sorry I'm new here Undecided)

I was wondering if I could pass those midi values into Ableton using a program written in processing, maybe using promidi or something? The idea is to control effects based on input from a video source.

Any help would be amazing!
