How to receive and process SMS text messages?

I want to create a processing sketch that can receive SMS txt msgs and then parse them. The idea is to receive txt commands to control external hardware (e.g. a led connected to an arduino) via serial commands sent from processing.

To receive the SMS messages it can either be via a phone connected by bluetooth to a computer or the computer is connected to the internet (and use some sort of gateway?)

Just trying to figure out the best strategy for this. Any tips?

I am on a mac but have access to a pc as well. My phone is an iphone 2g but I could buy any phone that would be necessary (e.g. one compatible with the smslib if needed)
