bitmap warping / reshaping

Hi All

I am very interested in the effect achieved by the oasis project

http://everyware.kr/portfolio/contents/09_oasis/

The particular effect  I mean is the way the way in which the fish "swim", Do you think this is a simple animation (as in a series of bitmaps played in succession) or the image is being warped from within processing?

I read the section as on the site as to analyzing the movement of the creatures but there is no mention of how the effect is replicated.

Can anyone shed some light?

Kind Regards

Nic
