control external video player

hi folks,

i'm currently working with videoclips played interactivly by processing. i'm running ubuntu and GSMovie library and tried different other libs. unfortunately the performance is very poor, can't get fullscreen videos played fluently. so i was thinking about controlling maybe vlc over udp or rtp or tcp or whatever but i don't get it. do you have a slight idea how to start?

i'm really in a hurry because i build an installation with deadline and i'm really stuck..  Shocked

thanks in advance!
chris

just joined --do not know processing yet--but I can tell you that I have been playing around with trying to speak tcp/ip remotely to pc's that have a video player on them--I use crestron to send the commands, anyway I found vlc very cumbersome and had much better luck with Zoom Player--I have been able to  put zoom in startup on a pc and then play files in fullscreen and then when an end of file response comes back from zoom minimize the player--so far it works great but I wish I could control the size and placement of the video windows--so far I have not figured that out--anyway look into Zoom Player it is better documented than VLC Smiley
