openCV - screen stays black -but no error massage

Hi!

I use WinXP SP2 and a canon 3ccd camcorder via FireWire.

when i start any demo of openCV, the window opens, no error occurs, but its just black.

when i use the processing.video.*; library, it works fine.

the picture of the cam is also there in explorer, when i click on the cam as well as in WinVDIG.

do i need anything else for OpenCV? i searched the different forums and groups, but didn't come across anything useful, since there is no error massage!
anyone??

im running mad here! i tryed installing 1.1pre1 - didnt work, i re installed 1.0, i installed a new directx and direct draw...

opencv plays videofiles...that works fine

and even when the cam is used by another program, opencv complains about not finding the camera, and actually tells me the right cam!!

what is wrong there? PLS!
HELP pls, i have no more ideas where to search!

Okay, since i thought it may be a problem with the camera, i tried another one. a sony DV cam, also with firewire. same result: no picture!

is it principally possible to run a firewire cam with openCV? im actually in doubt now!

i would be really thankful for any ideas!!

okay, its somehow my system witch screws up with OpenCV...on any other System (XP and OSX) i checked, it worked fine...

still i cant get it to work on my computer, so i thought of compiling it, that could do the trick, doesnt it?

does anyone have a good step-by-step manual for compiling OpenCV?

I have the same problem (winXP, grabbing card), fortunately jMyron works, so what I do is I grab frames with jMyron, and then copy them to opencv object and process them.

just in case you were wondering if i ever got it to work: no.

i came to believe that OpenCV is just incompatible with some FireWire Controllers. I tryed it on diffrent machines, mac as well as Windows, and it always worked (sometimes i had to configure around a bit, sometimes it was plug&play...)

so if you encounter the same thing as i did, dont waste a s**tload of time, just switch to another machine/FW contoller.
