We closed this forum 18 June 2010. It has served us well since 2005 as the ALPHA forum did before it from 2002 to 2005. New discussions are ongoing at the new URL http://forum.processing.org. You'll need to sign up and get a new user account. We're sorry about that inconvenience, but we think it's better in the long run. The content on this forum will remain online.

The Share Experiment: Call for Participation

Share is a new programming tool designed to facilitate open source cooperation among distributed programmers within communities of practice while still supporting individual agency (i.e. it is a tool for open source development of distinct, individual projects). Currently targeted towards users of the Processing programming language, it is an IDE that automatically shares ones code with everyone else using the tool, as well as keeping track of how that code might be used by members of the community. More info about it can be found at http://share.media.mit.edu

The Share Experiment is an online competition/design-a-thon/hack-a-thon and exhibition that invites 30 participants form to use Share to make new creative works over the course of ten days. The theme of this competition is "Inspired By Pong", though the final result need not be game-like, artists/hackers are invited to reinterpret and remix the concept of pong, while at the same time being open to reinterpretations and sampling of their own work as it being created. We are currently seeking participants and will be awarding some prizes including iPod Touch(es) and Arduino kits, and hopefully a lot of fun will be had by all. So we encourage anyone who is interested to apply. The Share Experiment will run from June 5th - June 14th and we are accepting applications now, please visit http://share.media.mit.edu/participate for more information and instructions on how to apply.

While probably not suitable for those who have no experience with Processing, we are really interested in seeing how this tool helps/hinders programmers with a wide variety of backgrounds and experience with Processing. So even those who are not all that experienced or consider themselves beginners should not hesitate to apply.

Share is a project by Yannick Assogba, a student in the Sociable Media Group at the MIT Media Lab. Any questions or comments can be sent to share [at] media [dot] mit [dot] edu. Please feel free to pass this on to anybody who may be interested.
