i just downloaded and unzipped processing, when i go to run it though, i get a message that says "could not find the main class:processing.app.base. program will exit" what does this mean and how do i get it working

Which version did you download, for what system?

i have the newest version, for windows, im running vista is that a problem

I haven't heard of problems with Vista. I had issues with the 1.0 release (on XP) but they were fixed with 1.0.1 although I recall more recent messages reporting similar problems.

You have the regular (not "expert") version, with a 'java' folder inside, right? You have a pde.jar file in the 'lib' folder?
Not sure if it is necessary, but perhaps you can try and move the Processing folder to a path without space.
