Networks- how do you do it?

Does anyone know of any tutorials or guides that could help me along with setting up a network in which 8 systems are all interacting with the same java applet. I really need to start from the basics.

so you're trying to connect 8 clients to one server? are they on a LAN or over the internet?

i would try OSCP5.

it's an OSC lib for processing. it makes network communication really simple and also interoperable. it's really easy to setup a message communication between hosts with it.
