Sonia with a USB mic on Mac
Aug 2nd, 2008, 12:05am

I'm developing an app in Processing that uses the Sonia library to record sound from an external mic.

I want to use an external mic, plugged into my macbook via a Griffin iMic USB adapter (griffintechnology.com/products/imic). However I can't find a way to get Sonia to listen to my external mic rather than the Macbook's internal mic.

As far as I can make out Sonia automatically attaches to the first sound input device on the list in my Mac. I tried my iMic with a Mac Mini and Sonia recorded from the line-in by default (no internal mic on a Mini).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Patrick

OK, I found the solution to my problem. Thought I'd share it here in case it is useful to others.

To change the microphone that Sonia listens to on Mac OSX there is one simple step. Run Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup.app and change the Default Input to the mic you want to access through Sonia. That's it.
