processing & emacs
Jun 21st, 2008, 6:50am

Hi,

I downloaded the linux version of processing two minutes ago - and things worked out of the box Smiley

...beyond the editor not accepting any input at all...

...which I do not mind too much, as I would be much happier using emacs as editor anyway.

I searched the forums - but couldn't find anything.

Any idea?

Thanks, Dietrich

Not sure if that's the issue, but if you go to File > Preferences, you have a check box Use external editor.
If it is checked, the edition is locked.

Merci PhiLho,

I didn't expect things to be so easy to solve :)

Thank you very much!

Considering the subject of my question and your answer - so it is
possible to use an external editor - for example emacs - by just
checking this checkbox and editing the file with the external
editor. For running the code the processing gui would have to be
used...

Still, it would be nicer to have an emacs mode with font-colouring,
proper indentation etc. which would also allow to execute the written
code directly from emacs... Any information about this topic?

If there is no such mode - somewhere I found a note on the possibility
to skip the processing gui and to use processing directly from the
command line.  As far as I remember it was mentioned that this at the
time of writing only was possible by compiling processing from the
sources.  I think it was mentioned also that somebody would work on
making this a standard feature of processing.

Does anybody know where to find more information about how to use
processing from the command line - with or without having to compile
it from the sources?

Thanks again :)

Dietrich
