The Colour Economy Vimeo Channel

I've been working for a while on a project called The Colour Economy. It is starting to look like something tangible, and I have been posting some video renders from it on Vimeo:

If you'd like, you can subscribe to the channel and keep track of when new videos are uploaded.

In the Colour Economy, images are deconstructed into pixel 'traders' which do their best to survive and profit through trading red, blue, and green (RGB). I am hoping this project will raise questions about the permanence of image, the value of colour, and the role of the individual in a market economy.

Also, I think it's pretty fun to watch.

The traders are independent and are assigned a 'profile' which they use to make trading decisions. This profile includes values like risk tolerance and patience, and also a tendency to trust one of three 'predictive' sources - local observation, a global 'analyst' and an 'oracle'.

Right now I am working on a recording system for the economies so that there can be a visual record of what occurs during each 'performance'.

The resulting systems vary greatly with different source images. I will be uploading a few really interesting new renders over the next couple of days.

As always, feedback is appreciated - so feel free to reply here or to comment on the Vimeo videos.

Thanks!

-Jer
