Texture on a Toroid - Rubber Bycicle Wheel

So, for a little animation i'm doing I'd really love to have a realistic bike. I made a really great cylinderLine(x,y,w) that connects 2 points with a cylinder (which makes just about every part of the bike really easy to make)

all that's left is the wheels.

I think the learning toroid example here is great, but the way it draws (in rings) makes it difficult to texture -

that is, I don't know how.

How should I begin putting my rubber texture on my bicycle wheel? (My attempts at this are so lame, posting code wouldn't help.)

I think if you treat each cylinder section separately, and use the same texture-coords for each, and have a seamless tyre texture, you shoudl have no problem at all.

All you have to do is make sure the top/bottom of your texture line up and then it'll just work.. I think.
