Firefly Synchronisation
Feb 1st, 2008, 10:36am

Hi,

I've created a Firefly synchronisation (phase locking) and flocking simulator.
A video of the final sketch is available here:

http://vimeo.com/653177

I've slightly cheated with regards to the actual flocking, using Perlin noise rather than any actual flocking techniques (though videos of those I have simulated are also available), mostly because it actually looks far more natural.

Soon I'll get a domain up and running and post the source / working demo.
Any thoughts, criticisms or comments would be great.

cheers,

Ryan

Hi.
Thats pretty cool.
I really like all the glowing but the movement didn´t seem quite natural to me. i did a simple experiment some time ago wich looks like a lot of mosquitos. I dont have it online but ill send you the source if you want.
I would love to see how you did the glowing stuff.
would you mind sharing some code?

thanks

Yeah - as I say, I kinda cheated. The original point of the exercise was to get firefly synchronisation working, rather than flocking, but I ended up getting mildly carried away with it all.
