Inspiring datasets anyone?
Jan 28th, 2008, 1:42pm

Hi

I was thinking about good datasets to work and experiment with. Where do I find a nice dataset? I could use a nice tip or two about where to get interesting data. I have seen the Meteorology site and been trying to find things over at UN, but have not gotten any real nice ones...

Q: For what?
A: I don't know yet Smiley Let the data inspire for once.

Anyone has any links or ideas concerning this?

All the best
/Johan

There's a nice list growing at http://del.icio.us/tag/publicdata.

this is something i'm also really interested in

something from nasa maybe?
http://daac.gsfc.nasa.gov/data/datapool/

or europe/climate:
http://eca.knmi.nl/dailydata/index.php

for real time data, you could try http://www.haque.co.uk/environmentxml/live/
there's a processing library to access the data too

Very nice! Big thanks.
What is the library to access the "live" data?
The standard "xml" perhaps? Or how do I get the working library?

you mean for environmentxml?
there's a link off the info page here:
http://haque.co.uk/environmentxml/live/library.php
but looks like the documentation is out of date.

Hey, that's me Wink

By day, I work in Martin Wattenberg's Visual Communication Lab -- we built Many Eyes.

I hope you find it useful.  Either way, we're open to feedback, especially from this community.

Nice place.
Especially to do instant visualisations with chosen data sets.
Just did a Tree Map on Disney Characters.
Now, I never thought I would do that when I woke up this morning Smiley

Also. Ben Fry gives good leads to follow in his new book (I just got it today) "Visualizing data". In an excellent, easy-to follow way as usual. Big thanks to Ben. Again. Smiley
