Generative Animator at SPACES Gallery in Cleveland
Nov 18th, 2007, 4:25pm

I will be exhibiting a generative animator that I programmed with Processing at SPACES Gallery in Cleveland, OH through December 7th.

I set up a chalkboard with a camera facing it and a computer on a pedestal, also facing the chalkboard.  When a person walks between the camera and the chalkboard it trips the frame differencing program (written by Golan Levin) and begins to record one frame every sixty-seconds as long as the person is drawing on the chalkboard.  The frames are then looped back for the person to view on the screen of the computer.  I am going to use this program in my own work as an animator to be able to follow in real time where the motion of the animation is going.

If you are in the Cleveland area, please stop by and let me know what you think.  I have the code posted in the gallery, as well as a previous animation playing on a screen.
