Embedding java in pdf
Mar 14th, 2007, 2:56am

I've been asked by the editor of a pdf journal if it will be possible to embed one of my processing pieces as the document cover.

Does anyone know if this can be done (and how)?

An example is here:

Thanks

If you do this, please place a warning on any link to the document.

1: Some computers completely lock up when launching Java (like mine)

2: Some computers completely lock up when opening a pdf (like mine)

Combining the two would create a powerful force of digital evil.

Given the invention of Macrodobe, pdf can allegedly accept Flash embed:

I doubt Java can be embedded in pdf, but I'm sure it would be easy enough to create a demonstration of your concept in an embedded Flash. The syntax after all takes only about a day or so to translate.

While knowing nothing about the principles of the PDF display platform (apart from the PS), from experience I'd simply say: I've never seen it done.

And to add to what st33d says, bare in mind users would have to have both technologies (version penetration of the recent javas is still low), it'd be a fairly risky thing to do.
