save as crash
Dec 7th, 2006, 11:49am

Been experiecing some crashes (processing window goes poof) since version 0123. I would "save as" on a new file with nothing in it, and it would create the folder but processing would close.

I'm on a Windows XP 2gb ram.

Actually, if you save-as, and then cancel.. it will crash as well.

can you define crash? what's actually happening? the window closes? no error messages or anything?

Right.

Window closes. No error messages at all. Processing just vanishes. Poof.

we just ran into this on another machine with arduino, but can't get recent releases of processing to do the same thing. are you using the expert version? can you get it to happen with the non-expert version? how consistently does it crash?

Win XP 2gb here too. Expert version. Console says: Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_05-b05)

Any "save as" gives me a 100% spike in CPU usage and stops VLC Media Player for a second. Slightly longer with a "new" and empty file.

No crash though. I'm just posting control data.

the cpu thing is gonna be from rebuilding the sketch menu:
http://dev.processing.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=357

but we're having trouble nailing down the crash. it may be specific to java 1.4.2_08, and perhaps versions of java 1.5 from a similar time, but having not been able to replicate it consistently, i'm stuck.

k, i'm hoping it was just a problem with a particular java release, but i'll go with my hunch re: 1.4.2_08 and its 1.5-series cousin.

i'll close this thread and if anyone runs into this, please file a bug on dev.processing.org.
