Is there a way to get the iTunes output and not the mic as the AudioInput in Ess on an iMac?

A bunch of people have asked me recently about how to change inputs on the Mac. The short answer is you can't, for now. The problem lies with the implementation of JavaSound on the Mac. On the PC you can control the default input using system settings. Mac Java ignores system settings. Also, though you can query all available inputs, the Mac version of Java doesn't return any meaningful data about what is what (and doesn't implement Java Ports).

A future version of Ess (sooner rather than later I hope) will allow you to switch inputs. The drawback is on the Mac you won't know what you're switching to.

(Note: I developed Ess on the Mac so I'm as frustrated as you.)
