How to get pict out of canon powershot via USB?

Hi all.
I'm testing a few ideas regarding a little project I'd like to do in processing, and it involves taking pictures every "x" seconds. I know this can be done with USB webcams, but i don't have one, and, on the other hand, i have a canon powershot S2 IS camera which is quite good (6 megapixels, etc), which is years better than a webcam in terms of image quality.

The problem is that this type of cameras when connected to the pc don't appear as a webcam or such, so I don't know if there's a way to get the picture out of it using processing. I'm contacting canon to see If I can get an sdk or something, but I guess this will take time (if they agree to allow me to use the SDK at all).

Maybe someone here has already gone through this process? Is there a simple way to be able to get the image from the camera out of processing?
