No Serial Ports on Mac
Mar 20th, 2006, 1:35pm

I'm off to demo a project next monday and I'm wondering what I'm going to plug my robot with its RS232 serial cable into on these Apple Macs that they have at the RCA. Obviously I'm going to have to bring some kind of question-mark-to-serial adapter, but I'm not even sure that will work and I don't have such a thing at school to test the theory.

The tricky art about this is going to be walking into some random place and having an application that I can walk up to any Mac with and not have to configure stuff.

I can set up a prompt for what serial device the machine wants to use. The hardware is another issue though. Especially as Macs don't have obvious serial ports.

Does anyone have experience to share or opinions to offer? Just so I know what dongle to buy before my interview on Monday.

Ah, thanks. Didn't occur to me that this might be in the FAQ. That's generally a no go then. It looks like some dickering will be involved. Damn you pesky Macintosh!

i use a serial connected arduino on a mac, you just need to use a USB port and install the drivers.
