Hacking a Scanner ??

Dear all,

I am completely new to 'processing'. I think I have seen someone use processing to convert a usb scanner input into an audio output. Is it possible to acomplish this using processing. I am in fact interested in any other interesting ways to distort the input data. I am not fussy about the exact results of this, I'd be very greatful for a vague outline of how this is done

I realise this is the the sort of stupid question asked only by complete beginners, but we all have to start somewhere

If I could draw your attention to this project here -

Do you think something like this could be achieved using processing ?

Hi James

You should take a look at this site. Although in its infancy, I will be updating it in the next few weeks with more valuable information.
http://www.sonicforms.org

There are lots more projects like that, check out the relevant work section.

RGB Player that you mention uses a camera and tracks colours, which can easily be done in Processing. Anything more complicated like tracking patterns/markers then you would need to use external software.

You might also be interested in this project:

It was a conceptual project though, the creators didnt have it working. I think they were close to hacking the scanner drivers but ran out of time on their project.

If you want some more info about creating these interfaces, thats not specific to Processing, you can post here
