Snake AI

Sorry if this is a post but the Mobile Processing board is a bit vacant of traffic so I thought I'd ask about it here.

I've coded up a game where you play snake versus the computer for the mobile (the link is to an applet version).

I'm wondering how I can make the computer snake more intelligent. I understand that one can introduce aspects of intelligence by giving the A.I. random stimuli. So instead of turning clockwise all the time to free itself it might turn anticlockwise.

I've also thought I might have a sort of waypoint system. But it would have to be pretty dynamic and clever and I'm not sure about a good way to go about it.

Any suggestions would be very helpful.
