Spectrum Analyzer.
May 10th, 2006, 12:34am

Hello everybody,
I'm new to processing so I don't really have a clue about what is possible and where processings boundaries are. My plan is as following. I'd like to create a program, that displays a spectrum analyzer of the music that is played on the pc where the program is running. My plan would be to put this processing program on a website so that everyone who's surfing to the page sees his own spectrum analyzer of the music he's just playing in winamp, itunes or whatever.

Is that even possible with processing or do I need to look for  something else (like flash, which is slow as hell)

Thanks in advance,
Carn

Hello carn,
you cannot use flash because it only runs with the sounds that are in its library. For example,in actionscrip3 there is a special function called spectrum analyzer.but you cannot use it with a microphone in live.

Otherwise there is a library in processing that runs in live and it is called ess.  On the site where you can load this library there is an example of spectrum analyzer in live.  I am making a similar program specialized for the human voice. If you are interested in it we can exchange information on this forum.

I hope to see you later
Mathieu
