Just posted a JavaSound-based library
May 9th, 2005, 12:50pm

I've just posted the first release of a JavaSound-based library I've been working on for a couple of months or so. It is called Ess.

The library allows you to create mono sound channels that can load, generate, manipulate, save, analyze, and play sound data. There are a lot of high level methods for things like pitch shifting (while maintaining tempo), reverb, filtering, etc., while at the same time allowing direct manipulation of sample data. And if you install it properly, it loads MP3s.

There are a few examples online, and it works quite well within applets
(Java 1.3 or better). As this is the first release there are bound to be bugs. (Also the documentation is complete, but could be better!)

Our server go hacked over the weekend and it should be up again tomorrow eve. (I don't think traffic is so huge I need a mirror yet, but thanks for offering! Perhaps once I hit a stable release...)
