hello,

is it or will it possible to program plugins for 3D apps with processing?

Be more specific.  What kind of programs, what kind of plugins?

3D apps like softimage xsi, maya, 3d studio max, blender animation master, cinema 4d and so on. plugins like crowd simulations or particle simulation, rigid and soft body simulations and so on. play with your phantasy. Smiley

Then probably not. The host application needs to be capable of loading plugins written in java, which isn't the case for the mentioned iirc.

It's possible, but it would be a waste of time to use processing to do what you mentioned.  Processing is primarily a graphics engine, you're not going to get any benefits using processing (over straight-up java) for things like partical simulations or soft/rigid body physics.

What advantage do you see in using processing for something like this?

On the other hand, if you wanted to generate graphics, 3d models, or shapes/paths/etc., then there is logic in using Processing, and it's simply a matter of exporting a file format that whatever the particular 3d program uses/can read.
