usb keyspan woes

Hi...I'm having problems getting my keyspan USB to get recognized by processing...I'm getting these errors:

RXTX Warning:  Removing stale lock file. /var/spool/uucp/LK.001.008.000

2005-10-09 23:00:58.838 java[622] Java couldn't paint in Java_apple_awt_CRenderer_doImage, no focused view.

can't seem to figure out what's going on.  I tried the code with the PIC on a PC and it works fine and I've followed Tom Igoe's recommended fixes for the Keyspan adaptor in the serial library of Processing.  Anybody have any ideas?
