Exporting as application

First, let me say that Processing is fantastic!  I've done a few simple things in it, and I'm now working on a more advanced project that will need to be in an application format instead of an applet.

I've looked around both the ALPHA and BETA boards, and it seems like many people would like a simpler way of creating applications instead of applets.  I noticed in the Environment reference that "in the future, it will be possible to export applications".  Is there an expected time frame when this feature might be implemented?  I understand that neither of you (fry and REAS) is working on this full-time, so I'm just hoping for a very ball-park estimate.

In the meantime I'm going to attempt it myself using the extensive help posted by toxi, REAS, and others.  Thanks again for providing such a fantastic tool and for supporting it in your free time!

I've not had reason to create standalone apps using Beta, but found it fairly straightforward using Alpha on the Mac:

I've seen the instructions for making applications using Alpha and Beta, and I'm planning on doing that for right now.  My real question was when we might expect to see integrated support in the Processing IDE instead of having to use a workaround.

no estimate, sorry. there's an entry in the bugs db for it to track its progress.

i've slowly been adding support for it over the releases. for instance, manifest files are now created so jar files are double-clickable so long as you aren't using any libraries.. it's not what you're looking for but it's slowly stepping in that direction.

i've answered this in more detail elsewhere on the board.

Okay, thanks.  I searched around but couldn't find anything - sorry if it was a repeat question.
