(Photographic) Film grain simulation

Problem: my sketches don't look sufficiently low quality !

There are any number of plug-ins for graphics packages to simulate film grain  (Magic Bullet, Cinelook etc etc) - but I'm interested in hand-rolling something that can run in real time against Processing sketches, and Google fails me - does anybody have any starting points? (Hint: just adding stochastic noise is not getting me realistic results, and Perlin noise at film-grain sizes isn't anywhere near realtime! to my eye, it seems that a certain amount of pixel diffusion of the original image is also going to be called for ??). How do poeple usually do this - am i stuck compositing in canned noise footage?Sad

many thanks

guy
