Applet slow within processing
May 23rd, 2005, 8:25pm

Hi,

Whenever I use ctrl-R or hit the run button, the applet is very slow. However, when I export it, it runs fine and dandy. This may well not be a processing bug, but what kind of things might cause it?

can you at least provide some information about what system you're on, whether this happens with all sketches, etc?

stuff i need to be helpful:

Aarrg, What was I thinking?! Serves me right for doing processing instead of revising...

Anywho, it's with all applets requiring plenty of processing power - e.g. Fluid, Smoke and so on. Repeating - they run fine outside of processing. This problem is exhibited in 0090, but not 0068.
I'm using Ubuntu hoary, 2.6.10, Barton 2800 processor. No errors, and I appear to be using jikes 1:1.22-1 (not the one included with processing) and libstdc++2.10 1:2.95.4-22 is providing my libstdc++-libc6*.so file.
I don't know what method processing uses to run the compiled code, if nothing else, this information would be particularly useful.

Sorry again for the shoddy question!

hm, bummer, so i'll need to look into this on linux when i get a chance. happily i just got a li'l poopy pc to run linux and test just these sort of things.

(edit) actually, what version of java do you have installed on your system? perhaps you're using java 1.4 with processing and java 1.3 in your browser? or maybe 1.5 even?

Unfortunately, the java plugin that I'm using is a symlink. To the java plugin file that comes with processing-0090.
Copying the java directory from 0068 to 0090 also didn't help.

edit: java plugin as listed in about:plugins is 1.4.2_08-b03.
