generate()?

Is the intended function of generate() documented anywhere?  I have a suggestion for a sonic feature, but I'd like to understand the intent of generate() before I post something to the suggestion category.

Hi,
There's a little mistake, on this page:
"440 Hz equals to a C. "
It's an A.
