applet fails for Mac G3 user

A good colleague sent me this:

He was trying to view this:

The applet apparently loads and displays the text, but nothing else. Any tips? I imagine that the next time I am in his office I can look for a Java error message in the browser...

what browser are you using? what version of the Mac OS are you using ( i am assuming OS X 10.3 ) ?
works fine on both safari and IE under OS X 10.3.4.
