website examples garbage collection?
« on: Jul 11th, 2004, 5:53pm »

hi

i just occurred to me that some of the examples in 'learning/examples' leave the CPU at 100% after switching to another example or url. some examples even trigger the CPU to 100% after(!) switching, which clearly indicates a garbage problem.
i was systematically going through the examples when i noticed. i can't give you a list, but it's like every second or third. i stopped at Color: RGB_cube.

closing the window won't help, if another IE window is still open. only closing all IE-wins will return CPU load to idle.

can someone confirm this? i rebooted and did everything i can think of to rule out other influences, but i can still observe it. btw: IE v6.0.2800.

I haven't experienced this. Can you please tell us which operating system and which virtual machine you're using (have you installed the Java plugin?)

ugh. right. you cought me hanging out the window(s):

actually i found the problem on both a w2k and a wXP box. but on both, no extra JRE / JVM was installed besides the regular MS-VM. And with those, i'm not sure where to get the correct version number from... but here's a try: msjava.dll has v5.0.3810.0 on the w2k-box.

Color: RGB_cube is definately one of the 'hangers'. if i run it right from within P5, there's no problem.
