A key issue: when the applet has focus in the environment, pressing the ALT key is throwing an exception in the println area of the app. Note that the applet still runs and such, and it looks like the right value is being fed into 'key'. Note that this is happening whether or not I implement keyPressed().

it's on the list but a low priority since it's cosmetic. though it's a bizarre one and can frighten people..
