too much data in data folder hangs system
« on: Jan 22nd, 2004, 5:45pm »

on WinXP, if i have a lot (240MB) of images in the data folder, my system hangs when RUN is pressed. when the number of images is reduced, everything works as expected.

i get the suspicion that the folder is sucked into RAM upon program execution. is this the case? need it be?

wow, 240MB.. that's a lotta data.

actually it's because the contents of the data folder are being copied to the build folder so the applet can be run. this isn't necessary when running externally (in another vm) so maybe if the data folder is large then we should just force using an external vm.

thanks for the note, good to know how people are using this stuff, i had never imagined people would use that much data (silly of me, seeing as its the focus of my research...), but it entirely makes sense.

at any rate, i've made a note to fix.
