OSC between browser windows

hi everyone,
i'd like to use OSC to communicate in real time between applets in separate browser windows. i realize that this isn't really what osc is for, but i thought it could be useful. i've done this on my machine(PC) with the loopback address (although, occasionally one of the windows needs a refresh to work properly), but can't get it to work on the web using the servers at my uni. does anyone know about what the problem could be, or what other problems i'm likely to come across. is it just a firewall thing? thx.
