processing in ITP Thesis Week
« on: Apr 30th, 2004, 7:20am »

myself and a couple of other graduating students are using p5 extensively in our thesis projects at new york university's Interactive Telecommunications Program.  unfortunately for this context, our school tends to focus on production first and documentation later, so i don't have detailed information about all of the projects yet.  i (or the others in question) will post more info as it comes.

if you're in the nyc area next week, please stop by for the presentations - they're open to the public.  if you're not in the nyc area, you can catch the webcast:

the three of us working with processing:
(all times GMT-4 / EST)
eric socolofsky (myself) (7:20pm, tues.4.may.2004)
brian maniere (2:40pmEST, wed.5.may.2004)
cindy yang (2:20pmEST, thurs.6.may.2004)

[contemplace] - eric socolofsky
http://transmote.com/projects/contemplace

contemplace is a spatial personality that redesigns
itself dynamically according to its conversations with
its visitors.  contemplace's visual displays and
overall structure are built with processing, which
communicates with max/msp( http://cycling74.com )
via flosc ( http://benchun.net/flosc ) to generate
environmental sound.

[Vernacular Interfaces] - cindy yang
http://itp.yangster.com/thesis

Vernacular Interfaces is an exploration of bridging
old tools and new technologies through the use of a
mortar and pestle that communicates serially with
processing. It aims to connect the user to my
travel experience in China and show that meaningful
objects and a reflective interaction with them can
generate more awareness.
