hey everyone: i don't know if anyone at Parsons informed the Processing people directly, but Processing will be used to introduce designers to programming as part of a monthlong class called "bootcamp" which introduces students to the MFADT program (dt.parsons.edu) at Parsons School of Design, part of New School University in downtown New York City. processing will be taught for one week and then actionscripting will be taught for three weeks. any people in new york city interested in joining one of the sections for processing critiques this week would be welcome, and anyone able/willing to come and critique final projects during the third week in August would be welcome as well. thanks! mike (mrb -at- parsons -dot- edu)

casey: ill be sure to keep you updated. some early feedback that i can give is that the file structure and export/save components of processing are very confusing to a lot of our students, much to our chagrin. the save/export combination eludes many people and we spend as much time explaining these descrepencies as we do actual code. interesting, right? it is quite an amazing process to see designers draw something out and then make it on the screen, pure beauty. i'll be sure to post the interesting class examples, and to point you to an index page (when it exists) of the students work from the various sections. for intro work i had them look over groupc.net and flong.com -- lots of positive responses to these two (of my favorite) portfolio type sites. the reference and learning sections of proce55ing.net are highly praised amongst all the students as well for being quite clear, concise, and exact in what they are trying to explain. more later, mike

This is an old thread the has suddenly resurfaced. From what I saw recently, it seems that Processing was removed from the Parson's bootcamp in favor of a Processing-style graphics library in Flash. Does anyone have any information or stories about this? Casey

casey, seems that that's the case. http://bootcamp.parsons.edu/2004/code/day2.html provides for instructions on using the drawingtools actionscript extension.
