L-growth examples? need suggestions/algorithms

Hi,
I'm starting a project involving a user mouse-clicking upon a shape, and then dendrils dynamically growing out from it, similar to this project:

I'm relatively new at a-life, and any simple algorithms to get started would help (dendrils branching out from a nucleus, etc.).
