old school scroller

Just a fairly simple scrolling game, in an "odl school" style. you pilot the sip at the bottom with the left and right arrow keys, and the aim is to stay alive for as long as possible. Once your shield has run out and you've died, you can hit space to restart. It run a bit on the slow side, due to the sheer number of stars and engine trail particles I'm using, as well as the fact taht everyting has to go through a rotate() before being drawn. http://www.hardcorepawn.com/fly I may well use this as a basis for a scrolling shoot-em-up game in the near future if I get the time. My high score is 12123

This is a pretty cool game! I like the style going here. Just a few remarks: I think the font doesn't look very pretty. And second: since you have to click the applet first to get it working, the buttons dont work right at the start. So maybe you could make it start after the user presses a button or something. I had the problem that I pushed left and right and all, but it didn't work, because I forgot to click the applet. Koenie

hehe, this is gripping. i like the fact that the pacifism of not having to shoot things makes the game even more hypnotic

Thanks to Koenie I've changed the font, and added a click to start option, so youdon't have to be quick off the mark to start playing. I'm going to see if I can get any net code into it to add a global high scores table, mainly as a learning exercise It is fairly hypnotic, expecially when you get able to play it for a while without dying. 26000 points takes quite a while.

you can cheat, if you press up and left at the same time, you can scroll out of the screen/range of objects.

Awesome game! Anything that hypnotizes so easily is great. When I first saw it, I was expecting the up/down arrows to change the "altitude" of the ship. Perhaps a 3d version is in order? ^_^
