not mine but a very very good example, i feel, in extending p5 and inheriting its methods. http://www.thesystemis.com/new_years/ perhaps the p5 team would have some comments?

yes, it's very good. it's by zach lieberman, an excellent designer who is a part of the proce55ing team. zach has been teaching with proce55ing at the parsons school of design in new york. martin, what do you mean by "extending and inheriting its methods"

re: p5 team... oh. all the while, i thought it was just you (casey) and ben... didn't know there were more. extending proce55ing: i noticed that zach used the bagel applets and the proce55ing applet as springboards in creating yet other applets (preloader, trivialapplet, letter) ... so in effect, (i'm guessing here) he extended proce55ing (meaning he didn't constrain himself within p5) by inheriting processingapplet's methods. ... i think this is because he worked with the more 'classic' release of p5 where not everything was contained in a jar file. (also noticed this with ben's examples) i'm not even sure if there's a p5 environment then. (lemme check the history)... therefore, i think that this is a good example for more advanced users to venture into...

yes, exactly. proce55ing is meant to be extended in this way, taken apart, and modified. we're producing a neat and tidy version for beginners, but it's also possible for more advanced people, such as zach, to cannibalize it. for example, he has been working recently to hack quicktime into proce55ing. it is the goal that these diversions will feed back into the main project. although ben and myself began the project, we look forward to a future of collaboration. zach has been working with proce55ing for months and is teaching with it and is therefore an important part of the endeavor. we hope he will be able to continue to contribute.
