"So what about the stock market?" Looks neat, but the ticker is pretty slow. Have you considered using FastText (or whatever it's called; the name escapes me)? That said, my machine isn't exactly new...

thanks for the note ryan. my bad. i forgot to rename the new index file, and thus the description did not appear. anyway, it's there now and the purpose of the little software should be clearer. i'll probably look into fasttext sometime. incidentally, the original version of fasttext (from bodytag) doesn't work in 0067. best, martin

oh btw, just to answer the "So what about the stock market?" part... it's more of an at-a-glance type of thing.

hi martin. so you've shown that you can get the data. great. i encourage you to think about telling a story in the data -- like how the entire market is behaving, in sectors, individual stocks, and as a whole, over time. what visual grammars might you invent to tell this story? the typical visual language for describing financial data is very tufte-esque, very wall street journal / ny times-y. treemaps are also common, and have become trendy in other contexts recently. years ago there was a great project at mit called financial viewpoints that presented this kind of data in 3-dimensional space. two q's to devote thought to: 1. how might you make this data useful? 2. can you make it useful in a novel way? or in a way that is better than what we currently have? if you can do these two things, you may have a hit on your hands.
