68: checkback
« on: May 13th, 2004, 6:01pm »

i was trying to solve some issues with p5 and qt 6.5.1 hanging on a videoLoad() / repeat() call and found that depending on where i put the p5-application folder, the freezing problems come and go. i checked all actual readme & revisions, doc, lib-doc, and FAQ,posts. couldn't find a thing about it, so here i triple-check with the buglist:

setup: p-068, w2k, qt6.5.1, winVdig combo
example: hernando barragan's 'pixels'

when putting my p0068-folder on the win.desktop, that is:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\processing-0068
p5 freezes and the javaw.exe process has to be killed.

putting the p0068-folder to something 'simple' like:
d:\processing-0068
everything is fine.

needless to say: the folders are copies (no changes) and i usually start up processing.exe and not run.bat.

this might also be a cause for some of the quicktime-problems that have been posted in the group. i strongly suggest that this is written down somewhere prominently (install.txt/readme.txt?) if it can be replicated by someone else.

if it's just me who's dumb, blind & stupid enough to even try running p5 fron such akward locations, please disregard this post.

cheers.

interesting.. i wonder if this changed between 57 and 58 (not 67/6 when the serial stuff started being weird too..

i use processing from the root of my c:\ drive so i tend to miss these sort of bugs..

hi ben,

i just tried fiddling with 0056 expert (pc) to see if quicktime was working back then... when i ran it from a folder on my desktop it crashed javaw massively!.. however, when running it directly from c:\ it worked.

so the quicktime stuff has (aparently) always been the same.

i did some more testing on other systems. it's really the path that messes things up. i've gotten some feedback from other people that i was in touch with because of the same problems. it fixed it for them too.

maybe it's time that this really simple fix is posted somewhere prominently?
