Processing / making an audio visualizer with fractals

Dear fellow friends,

I'm currently in the process of making an audio visualizer (which responds to various properties such as rhythm / intensity / pitch). Visually I was looking at incorporating fractals which vary according to the above properties. First and foremost I was recommended this Fragmentarium program (http://syntopia.github.io/Fragmentarium/) which I heard was compatible with Processing and generates fractals. If anyone has any recommendations on how to get started (would working in 3 dimensions be considerably harder? Should I try model the fractals myself? ), anyone with experience on Fragmentarium or with any general advice would be greatly appreciated.
