Music x 3D printing hackathon, September 5th - 7th, London, UK

Hi Processing fans!

My name is Aran, from a new hackspace we've just set up at Imperial College in London (www.icah.org.uk). Our next hackathon event is coming up and its all about the use of 3D printing for the creation of new musical experiences. Check out the details below.

It would be awesome if keen Processing ninjas here would turn up, join in with the teams and participate!

Best,

Aran

Between the 5th – 7th September 2014, Imperial College Advanced Hackspace (ICAH) and 3D printer manufacturer Ultimaker will be hosting Imperial College’s biggest hackathon event yet, Additive Sounds, at the Imperial College campus in South Kensington.

This event will bring together the worlds of music and 3D printing. We will challenge event participants to create new musical innovations using 3D printing and commonly available electronic parts (provided). There will be several different design briefs:

Music creation (new instruments, repurposing existing instruments) Music consumption (accessories for listening, improving the music consumption experience, new gadgets, devices and tools) Music performance (performance, live shows, audience experience) Music promotion (new ways of promoting artists, brands interacting with music) Formed into small groups, participants will design and create innovative digital or physical objects in a limited time frame (two days) using provided electronic components, 3D printers and any other objects that they may wish to incorporate.

A large array of Ultimakers – desktop-sized fused-deposition modelling (FDM) 3D printers – will be available for their use, as well as various audio electronics kits, pickups, microphones and speakers. The teams will pitch their innovations to a judging panel at the end of the event; the best efforts will receive prizes.

Experts and luminaries from the worlds of music and 3D printing will be on hand over the course of the event to give insightful talks and to provide advice & support to the participants.
