How to launch Processing in Ubuntu

edited August 2014 in Using Processing

I have installed processing on my Ubuntu. I can execute the launch script from terminal (./processing); however, when I dbl-click on the icon in Files, I get gedit and the script. Right-clicking and selecting "Open with Run Software" just sits and spins, then comes back to Files.

  • Have you already checked whether that launch script has execution permission? /:)

    Most I can tell you is what I've done. Watch out that I'm using an outta support 64-bit Lubuntu 13.04 yet! #-o

    • I've unpacked the Processing v2.0.2 file into my home folder.
    • The erased its bundled "/java/" subfolder in order to force it to use my system Java version.
    • Set execution permission for "processing" launcher script.
    • As an extra, made a desktop shortcut launcher too:

    [Desktop Entry]
    Encoding=UTF-8
    Version=1.0
    Name=Processing 2
    Name[en_US]=Processing 2
    Comment=Processing
    Comment[en_US]=Processing
    Type=Application
    Categories=Programming
    Exec=/home/goto/processing-2.0.2/processing
    Icon=/home/goto/processing-2.0.2/lib/icons/pde-512.png
    Terminal=false
    StartupNotify=true
