mouse position on sphere

I want to hover with the mouse over a sphere (world).

From that i want to get the coördinates as in latitude and longitude.

Also i would like that i can convert latitude and longitude to a position on the sphere.

All i have so far is a textured sphere based on:

But i have no clue how to continue, can someone give me some advise?

Yeah, I'd like this too.

There have been some threads about it, but an updated and complete code example would be great!

latitude and longitude /is/ the position on a sphere .. what else did you have in mind?

As for a particular point on on the sphere .. you want the point that's right below the pointer-tip, right?

Start out figuring out from where you look at the globe .. (sometimes referred to as the camera position). It'll be a long juggle of vectors, so if you don't like that - forget it.

I'm not sure if you have a perspective .. it should not be needed.

That makes a short path, becourse the camera-position can probably be turned into something like

radius*cos(longitude) = camera.x ..

This is not a sharp suggestion, but, work on it!

Thanks, i looked a bit into it but it's not easy, i don't have the energy lately to dig into 3d programming stuff..

Maybe i use the program softimage and ice.
