inkscape svg files?

hi!
i would like to use PShape.
the only app that i have that creates svg files is inkscape.
i've tried creating several svgs - and even the simplest thing such as a square or circle cannot be loaded with loadShape.
instead i get a ton of errors
is there a known issue or is something whacky in my set up?
if it is a known issue are there any other open source apps that create svg files that are processing friendly?
